Leaders of the Delaware Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus will welcome attendees, present information on hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, and trapping in Delaware, and discuss some of the Caucus' recent victories.

11:00 - 11:30 (The "Animal Planet" Generation: The Next Wave of Wildlife Management Leaders):
Data now indicates that more than 70% of current students majoring in wildlife, fisheries, and natural resources degrees at major colleges and universities across the United States have little to no experience or background with hunting. This poses a serious threat as they graduate and go off into the professional wildlife management world where they will make decisions that impact sportsmen and women USING dollars generated by sportsmen and women. This session will look into this trend, programs associated with educating current degree seeking students on hunting and the role it plays in wildlife management, and current challenges and opportunities state legislatures and state agencies have to address it (non-resident college student licenses fees, access to firearms, funding for programs, etc.)

Hunt for Good is a comprehensive national campaign designed to increase cultural support for hunting among non-hunters. Based on extensive research by industry experts, the customizable campaign allows states, agencies and partners to showcase a broad spectrum of hunting benefits and messages tailored to the non-hunting public. The campaign was developed by the National Wild Turkey Federation, its agency partner, The Truth, its research partner, Responsive Management, and funded in part through the Multi-State Conservation Grant Program and the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. It is also supported by the Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports and the hunting/conservation industry.

The NASC Executive Council Nominations Committee Chair will moderate this session which will provide candidates for the Executive Council an opportunity to provide brief remarks on their work with the respective caucuses and why they wish to be considered for the Executive Council.

Attendees will meet in the main lobby for transportation to the off-site location where the various outdoor activities will be held. Guests are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather.

Buses will return to the hotel for the evening reception, dinner, and auction.

This year’s auction and raffle, which will be held during the reception and dinner, will feature a wide array of hunting, fishing, and shooting items and excursions. Attendees will have the opportunity to take advantage of some great deals to wrap up their holiday shopping, or perhaps to begin planning for trips afield next year, all while supporting the work of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation in strengthening the NASC network.

Special guest and filmmaker Tom Opre will provide a special screening his new film, Killing the Shepherd: The Last Keeper, which explores the social, cultural, and political issues surrounding hunting in Scotland.

Scotland has seen generations of war. Today the war is different. Gone are the swords and muskets replaced by government policies pushed by groups staffed by Scotland’s urban elite.

Reminiscent with the acts of genocide during the Highland Clearances after the battle of Culloden in 1746 there is a modern effort to remove rural folks from the land. The targets are gamekeepers, ghillies, and deer stalkers whose families have been working the land, in some cases, for centuries. The land provides jobs and wages which they use to buy food and pay bills; keep families living in small communities filling local schools with children; and providing active wildlife and habitat management.

It’s a war for control. It’s basically class warfare. It’s a war where wildlife biodiversity and habitat conservation may be a thing of the past. The Highlands Clearance was a thing of the past but is cultural genocide a part of the future?
